Physical Self Care
Physical self-care is one of the most popular types of self-care clients focus on in therapy. Our bodies stay with us throughout our lifetime and are so vital that we care for our bodies.
Definition: Physical self-care embodies specific practices that help to sustain and support the body's well-being.
Benefits: It prevents and minimizes the impact of illnesses. It improves mood and decreases the effects of stress on the body.
Examples:
Get a primary care doctor if you don’t have one already. In my years of therapy, so many adults don’t have a PCP, and you must have one who can monitor your health and refer you to a specialist if you need additional treatment.
Have regular checkups with your primary care physician (PCP). This includes bloodwork and other tests to see how your body is doing.
Get and stay active. This can be walking, yoga, cycling, dancing, yard work, cleaning your home, etc.
Stay hydrated.
Get plenty of rest.
Keep your body fueled by eating full, healthy meals.
Give attention to your hygiene.
