Environmental Self Care

Environmental self-care is such a fun topic to discuss and explore. Our environment plays such an essential role in our mental well-being. Our environment impacts our mood and productivity.  Our environment is any space that we use for living and working.

Definition: Environmental self-care consists of practices that people do to keep their home and work spaces in a state that makes them feel good, productive, and comfortable.

Examples for Home

  • Add colors and decorations that make your space look fantastic, and you feel amazing.

  • Keep your bedroom tidy and decluttered. And add things that promote good sleep.

  • Keep your home smelling good by lighting candles, diffusing essential oils, using air purifiers,  or burning essences.

  • Invest in quality, comfortable furniture that will last a long time.

  • Add natural plants in your home that are low maintenance and suitable for filtering air, such as pothos, lucky bamboo, spider plants, and snake plants. 

  • Create a simple cleaning routine or schedule to help maintain your home’s cleanliness and prevent clutter.

  • Disconnect from technology and spend time doing hobbies or relaxing in your home.

  • Rearrange your furniture from time to time.

  • Update your home or specific rooms.  Sometimes, our spaces need an upgrade.  That could be getting new furniture or doing renovations.

  • Keep your home stocked with cleaning supplies.

  • Get everyone involved in keeping your home and shared living spaces clean.

  • Let stuff go-DECLUTTER. Get rid of worn or damaged furniture and appliances. Donate, sell, or give away clothes, furniture, and other household items in good condition that you no longer need or use.

  • Bring a living plant or two if it’s permitted at your job.

  • Decorate your workspace in a way that is appropriate for your company.  

  • If you work from home, have a comfortable, dedicated workspace that helps you feel productive and motivated.
