Maybe you have considered therapy before.  Maybe you know someone who has gone to therapy.  If you are wondering if now is the time to start therapy, it is!  Therapy is an investment of your time and money.  It can also be a scary, uncertain step to consider taking, or re-taking if you have tried therapy before.  Here are some reasons why therapy is valuable.

10 Reasons to go to therapy:

1. Gain self-awareness…learn about yourself, we all have blind-spots and sometimes we can not see the thoughts, beliefs, feelings or patterns that get in the way of our best self.  Have you ever wondered, “why do I keep doing this same thing over and over?” Or “why do I keep finding the same kind of relationship over and over?”  Maybe you’ve asked yourself, “what do I want to do with my life? Or “what is my purpose?”  Therapy can help you answer these questions and more!

2. Learning coping skills and strategies to interact/react differently in life

3. Improve emotional awareness (including psycho-education and skills to communicate your emotions)

4. Address unresolved, generational/familial patterns that are not serving you today

5. Receive support and alternate perspectives from an unbiased person.  We all need people for support.  Having someone who is not in our daily lives can help provide an outsider perspective when it can be hard for us to see what we are so close to.

6. Gain insight into problematic behaviors/habits/addictions.

7. Space to practice healthy skills including communication, authenticity, and connection.

8. Accountability for your goals and changes you want to make for yourself.

9. Identify the root cause of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, etc.

10. Have a regular safe space that is just for you, you can show up with anything you are carrying, anything you are feeling and have support from someone who wants to know and understand you!

Not every therapist is for every person but therapy is for everyone.  Life is hard and we are not meant to do it alone.  There is help when it is hard and there is support even if you just want to have more joy and less stress.  Try it, you are worth the investment!
