Financial Self Care

Financial self-care is an exciting topic to discuss.  Money issues and finances are everyday stressors that people identify in therapy.  There’s much research that confirms that financial strain and debt impact mental health.  I have found that creating simple goals and plans can positively impact how a person feels about their financial situation.

Definition: Financial self-care consists of specific strategies to improve and maintain financial wellness. 

Examples

  • Check your bank accounts regularly.

  • Spend time learning about financial wellness.

  • Assess your relationship with money

  • Work with a financial advisor.

  • See what services and benefits your bank has to help improve your credit and other financial goals.

  • Set attainable goals to pay off debt or to save.

  • Set reminders for due dates for bills and recurring expenses 

  • Pay bills on time.
